Scouting In the digital age: What You Need To Know.

The scouting industry is a resource that the football industry uses to identify and develop players. As a global sport, every aspect of the game demands the placement of certain talent in the most exclusive markets. Therefore, it is important that the players, agents, clubs, and market opportunities are all connected. Through this process, the scouts are able to find players with the necessary skills and experience to play for a specific club.

There are three types of scouts:

1) Club scouts - This is the most common type of scout. They know the inner workings of the club they work for, so they can identify the ideal type of player that can benefit the team.

2) International scouts - These scouts work for international squads and their job is to recruit already signed talent for their specific country. These scouts can be a big step for players looking to represent their international country, if they are able to show great skills and improvement.

3) Agency scouts - Sometimes these are the agents themselves and other times they work for agencies. Their job is to recruit talent so they can send them to the web of clubs they might have contact with.

What is a football scout looking for?

One of the most critical factors that a scout considers when it comes to scouting is the potential of a player. This is done by assessing their personality, technique, and tactics. Besides being able to play at a high level, the player also needs to be able to think fast and act.

Personality – does the player have the determination, passion, and psychological stability to play at a high level despite the intense pressure?

Tactics – does the player know how to think ahead to secure the win?

Technique – does the player have the skills required to fill the niche the scout needs to fill?

Team relationship – does the player help and support their teammates effectively?

Background and family – is the player going to have the support needed to reach the top level and excel as a top-flight footballer?

For goal keepers, scouts are looking for correct positioning, great reflexes, on the ball technique and smart distribution. All these qualities can be the difference between a player getting scouted by a team.

Modern football has taken the physical aspect of the sport to a new level. If a young player can show that they are capable of improving their physical attributes, they will be able to distinguish themselves from the rest of the players. Furthermore, one of the most important factors that a young player should consider when it comes to developing their skills is the technical aspect of the game. This includes the ability to pass and shoot, as well as the ability to use both feet and move seamlessly.
